Project Summary
It was our first hybrid solar and battery installation in Mindanao. The customer was exacting, and rightly so. He had already reached out to a number of contractors and, unfortunately, none of them met the standard he was looking for. We weren’t about to treat a remote site as an excuse for a lighter one. Before any panels went up, our electrical engineer traveled to the property to handle the design, thoroughly surveying and assessing the site. We walked the existing electrical installation, looked at how the standby generator was tied in, and mapped out the work. Seeing the logistics for ourselves mattered, because we wanted this family to get the same quality of workmanship we would deliver anywhere else, distance notwithstanding.
We built the system around AIKO high-efficiency panels, Sunsynk hybrid inverters, and Sunsynk LiFePO4 battery storage. When a home leans on its batteries this hard, choosing the right solar battery is what separates a system that holds up from one that quietly disappoints, and it is worth understanding why before getting into the results.
Generating electricity was never the hard part here. The real problem was the grid itself. The property sat on a supply that would sag badly for days, sometimes weeks at a time, dropping to as little as 100 volts. Voltage that low isn’t just an inconvenience. It quietly wears out motors, compressors and electronics, and the PCB-controlled appliances most homes now depend on are the first to fail. Over the years the homeowner had lost air conditioners, televisions and more than one computer to it. Running the air conditioning through a bad stretch simply wasn’t worth the risk, which left the family without a basic comfort in their own home.
Our fix was to let the house step away from the grid the moment the incoming supply drops to an unsafe level. Instead of passing damaging power into the home, the system carries the property on solar and batteries and holds a clean, stable voltage throughout.
Even with the distance and the job of hauling equipment into Bukidnon, we installed and commissioned the whole system in a matter of days.
The difference for the household has been the whole point. Voltage stays steady through the day. The air conditioning runs no matter what the grid is doing. Electronics behave the way they should, and the appliances that used to be at risk are protected from the events that damaged them before. There is also enough storage for the home to run effectively for around three days, completely independent of the grid.
The existing standby generator was folded into the hybrid system using Sunsynk’s dry-contact control, but its role has changed completely. Day to day it stays off. It only starts as a last line of defense, when battery reserves run low during a long outage. It is also set up and programmed to run on a weekly loaded maintenance schedule, so it stays exercised and ready without anyone having to think about it. The homeowner gets real energy security without leaning on the generator to get through an ordinary day.
We also built in room to grow. As the property’s needs expand, more load can be added without redesigning the installation.
For this family, the project was never really about a smaller electricity bill. It was about power they can count on, appliances that stay protected, and a home that stays comfortable without the worry of the next voltage collapse or blackout. The house can keep running on its own through an unreliable grid for years to come, while producing enough clean solar energy that the bill should be little more than an afterthought.
