Wellissa Farm
- Hog + Poultry Farm - Integrated Solar System
- System Size: 47.25 kWp
- Completion: 8-Oct-2017
Project Summary
Wellissa Farm is a diversified agricultural operation combining poultry houses, layer facilities, and hog production on a single site. This mix creates a complex energy profile, with continuous ventilation and lighting in poultry houses, pumping loads in hog facilities, and extended lighting cycles for layers. Managing these varied demands efficiently is critical to both animal welfare and operating costs.
In addition to grid supply, the farm already operated an on-site biogas system, requiring careful coordination to maintain power stability. Solaren designed and installed a grid-tied solar power system engineered to integrate smoothly with the existing biogas plant. Solar generation and biogas output are monitored and balanced to ensure stable operation across multiple utility meters without causing export or interconnection issues.
Solar arrays were optimised on a roof-by-roof basis to match local load conditions, improving generation efficiency while working within structural and operational constraints. With dual renewable energy sources now working in parallel, the farm benefits from lower electricity costs, improved reliability, and reduced environmental impact.
This hybrid approach supports long-term agricultural operations by delivering dependable power tailored to the realities of mixed livestock production.
