Daviau Residence
- Modern Class A Grid-Tied Solar Family System with zero billing
- System Size: 6.68 kWp
- Completion: 4-Dec-2020
- Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, Philippines
Project Summary
For an expatriate family spending six months of the year abroad, a standard grid-tied solar system would generate energy with nobody home to use it. Without net metering, that generation would be wasted. With it, every kilowatt-hour exported while the house sits empty becomes a credit that offsets consumption when the family returns.
That was the design logic behind the Daviau residence in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. The system was deliberately sized and configured around a net metering strategy: generate consistently, export the surplus, accumulate credits through the quiet months, and arrive home to zero bills regardless of what the Philippine summer has done to grid tariffs in the meantime.
SMA Germany SB6.0 inverter technology paired with Trina Solar Vertex modules, monitored via SMA ennexOS, has delivered exactly that since December 2020. Payback was achieved within 3.6 years. The family has not received a bill since commissioning.
For homeowners spending extended periods overseas, net metering is not just a compliance requirement; it is the mechanism that makes solar genuinely work for an intermittently occupied home.
