Laoang Poultry Farm
- Large-Scale Poultry House Renewable Energy System
- System Size: 54.72 kWp
- Completion: 29-Jun-2024
- Sta Ignacia, Tarlac, Philippines
Project Summary
Poultry farming runs on tight margins. Feed costs, mortality rates, and electricity bills move together, and the electricity bill is the one a farm operator can actually control.
At Laoang, the load profile follows the birds. As broilers grow, ventilation demand increases to maintain house temperature and air quality. By the time a batch reaches market weight, the fans are running hard and the meter is moving fast. Across a large operation with multiple houses, that curve shows up clearly on the monthly bill.
The site is served by a weak cooperative line, which introduced a further complication. The utility imposes power factor requirements on larger consumers, and falling outside acceptable parameters means penalty charges on top of the base generation cost. Solaren configured the SMA Germany STP110 CORE2 inverters to meet the utility’s power factor targets, removing that exposure entirely.
The 54.72kWp system was sized to reflect both the actual peak load and the grid constraints at this location. Daily savings of ₱2,466 translate to nearly ₱74,000 per month, a figure that moves the needle on farm profitability in a way that most operational changes cannot match.
Laoang is part of a wider group of farms that have adopted the same approach. The model works at scale, and the numbers at this site demonstrate why industrial solar power systems for poultry farms are one of the most financially consistent applications in Philippine commercial solar.
