Wellissa Farm
- Hog + Poultry Farm - Integrated Solar System
- System Size: 47.25 kWp
- Completion: 8-Oct-2017
Project Summary
Wellissa Farm is a diverse operation that deals with poultry, layers, and hogs through one location. This mix of facilities produced a special power profile, ventilation and lighting in poultry houses, pumps in hog sheds, and long lighting cycles in layers. Additionally, the farm has a biogas system providing renewable energy; however, it had to be synchronized carefully. Solaren designed a grid-tied solar system that can be smoothly integrated with the existing biogas plant, ensuring stability and meeting utility needs on various meters. The solar arrays were optimized on a roof-by-roof basis, and they were provided with monitoring to regulate the solar and biogas input. Wellissa can now enjoy lower cost, enhanced reliability, and minimized footprint on the environment today. The farm has developed a two-source energy solution through the combination of solar energy and biogas, which enhances the welfare of the animals and can be utilized in the long-term operation of the farm.
